As a sociable energy saving light bulb, I like getting out and about meeting people and have no shortage of friends! Recently I met Professor Bright, who is leading the Recolight initiative to educate children on the importance of recycling and the need for better, more efficient lighting in our homes, schools and offices.

It’s called The Big Light Project, and so far it has reached over 2,000 schools across the UK. Professor Bright has been working hard to produce teaching materials to suit all aspects of the classroom, with lesson plans available for Science, DT, PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) and even for Primary schools. The Big Light Project aims to heighten awareness of lighting efficiency and recycling issues amongst teachers, young people, families and friends. The exciting lesson plans feature fun projects designed to educate and engage children: in Science, learn about photosynthesis and how electricity is generated. In DT, design a futuristic torch and create an eco-t-shirt, and in PSHE re-live the dark streets of 18th century London and understand how UV light helps solve crime. It all sounds pretty exciting to me!
