Recycling gets arty!

Recycling gets arty!

Date: 22/7/2011

This week I’ve been looking at videos of recycled art to prove that recycling can be creative!

Meet the RSA WEEE Man; he lives at The Eden Project in Cornwall and consists of over three tonnes of recycled WEEE, the same amount that one person consumes in their whole lifetime!

At over seven metres tall, he’s not easily missed - a good thing too, as just like Recolight he’s helping to promote awareness of the importance of WEEE recycling.

The WEEE Man project aims:

  • to transform public perception of waste from "out of sight, out of mind" to visible, thought–provoking and behavior–changing
  • to encourage the public, retailers and manufacturers to think carefully about waste reduction
  • to raise the profile of the recycling industry
  • to educate people on ethical consumer choice and sustainable resource management
  • to raise support among designers and manufacturers for environmentally friendly designs

Watch Sussex artist James Caldicott create an ‘engaging interactive sculpture,’ out of recycled Life Water bottles.

Designed to get everyone involved, it seems like James has come up with a great way to help promote recycling through the community.  Recolight is passionate about getting the community involved too, and our CoBRA volunteering scheme does just that. It just goes to show there are many different ways to promote awareness about recycling, and all the better if it's something which brings the community together!
