Nominate a collection point

If you know of a business that would benefit from joining Recolight's free collection network or a customer who needs a free one-off lamp collection, why not let us know? As we look to expand our network we welcome nominations from existing network members. Any nominations that result in new collection points or one-off lamp collections will be entered into our prize draw to win a bottle of bubbly. And remember, as a Recolight collection point we want to celebrate your recycling achievements. Why not get in touch and we can feature you in our newsletter and on our website.

Recolight and Sainsbury's partnership launches nationally

The partnership between Recolight and Sainsbury's which provides the public with much-needed facilities to recycle end of life energy-saving light bulbs and batteries is being rolled out nationwide this month. The scheme began in five stores last October and will be running in 200 stores in total by the end of January.

As part of our ongoing commitment to raising recycling rates, we hope that these recycling points will encourage consumers to recycle their end-of-life lamps in a specially designed container which will be visible to millions of customers every week. Research we conducted indicated that consumers will recycle energy-saving light bulbs if they have access to suitable drop off points and Sainsbury's provides an excellent location for these joint collections.

Batteries
A reminder that from the 1st February, organisations selling more than 32kg of portable batteries annually must offer a battery take-back facility to manage the recycling of both waste streams.

Our partnership with ERP (European Recycling Platform) will provide our collection points with a unique service for the recycling of both batteries and lamps. ERP is one of the UK's leading electrical and electronic waste recycling schemes and deals with 15% of the UK's WEEE. The partnership means we can combine the two waste streams, using the same transport infrastructure for both products, and helping to reduce CO2 emissions.

For retailers and wholesalers with busy delivery schedules, it also cuts down the number of vehicles entering the site, and the associated paperwork.  If you think you may be eligible under the regulations or would be interested in offering battery collections alongside your current CFL collections please email info@recolight.co.uk

Meet the team
In this new section of our newsletter, each month we will introduce you to a member of the Recolight team.

Abdul Alim - Database Administrator
Abdul Alim is the Operations Team's Database Administrator, and since joining Recolight in January 2009, has been responsible for maintaining the RecoWeb system, as well as working with the Collection Point network to help with enquiries relating to disposing & recycling of lamps.

Previous to working with Recolight, Abdul worked in the travel industry for a hotel representation company and has worked with IT systems for the past four years.

He says: "It's very fulfilling to know that I am helping our collection points to offer a great service to their local community - providing advice and information on environmental & management issues means I can help them to find the right solution for lamp recycling.”

Currently, I'm working on enhancing various elements of the RecoWeb portal to make things as easy as possible for the collection points to self-bill and report returns.

Ask the expert
gemma bristowEach month, we will be putting your questions to our resident expert - if you have a question for our expert, please email it to info@recolight.co.uk

This month's question is: How do I get my full container of lamps collected?

The following step by step process should be followed every time a collection point needs to arrange for a collection:

  • Log onto the Recolight website ( www.recolight.co.uk) and click on the Recoweb portal in the top right hand corner of the main webpage
  • Enter your username and password
  • Click on the tab ‘request for collection'
  • Select which container you need collected and enter how full it is as a percentage
  • If you have any important information which the Supplier should know in regards to the collection e.g. there will be no one on site on a Tuesday or location of the container on site please place this in the additional information section on screen- if there is no additional information required please do not enter anything into this section
  • Press submit
  • This will give you a personalised batch ID number for the collection (reference number)
  • If you have more than one container for collection the process must be repeated from step c - there must be a separate batch ID number for each container requiring a collection
